Prepare the Lemongrass: Start by cutting the lemongrassstalks into smaller pieces, about 2-3 inches long. Use the back of a knifeto gently bruise the stalks to release their oils and flavor. This step helpsto maximize the infusion of that refreshing citrusy taste into your tea
Prepare the Mushrooms: If you’re including mushrooms, slice them thinly. Choose mushrooms like shiitake or reishi, which are commonly used for their health benefits and their ability to enhance the flavor profile of your tea. They will add an earthy, savory note to the drink.
Boil the Water: In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. If you want to enhance the flavor further, you can also add a piece of fresh ginger at this stage.
Infuse the Lemongrass and Mushrooms: Once the water reaches a rolling boil, add the lemongrass pieces and sliced mushrooms into the saucepan. Lower the heat to a simmer and let it steep for 5-10 minutes, depending on how strong you want the flavors to be. Stir occasionally to help release the flavors.
Sweeten and Adjust Flavor: After simmering, strain the tea into cups, discarding the lemongrass and mushrooms. A squeeze of fresh lemon can also be added at this point for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
Serve and Enjoy: Pour the lemongrass tea into your favorite mugs and enjoy while hot. If you like iced tea, allow it to cool and then serve it over ice for a refreshing, chilled drink.
